Defence Minister Badaru Abubakar Engages Plateau Stakeholders on Security Concerns, Commends Personnel Fighting Insurgency

In a proactive move to address security challenges in Plateau State, the Honourable Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, convened a meeting with critical stakeholders, including traditional rulers, security agencies, and local government chairmen.

Abubakar commended the existing peace in the region and urged stakeholders to sustain efforts, particularly in areas prone to conflict. He emphasized the need for peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders, citing negligence, criminal exploitation, and ethno-religious tensions as factors perpetuating crises.

To address these challenges, the Minister advocated for community engagement, credible intelligence, and collective action. “The Federal Government is committed to deploying all assets to ensure our people sleep with their eyes closed,” he assured.

During his address to military personnel combating insecurity, Abubakar expressed gratitude for their efforts and acknowledged significant progress. “I’m honoured to be with you today to express gratitude on your tireless efforts in restoring normalcy to Plateau State. The President has sent me to thank you and urge you to do more,” he said.

The Minister recognized the retrieval of numerous weapons, ammunition, and dismantling of local arms-producing factories as notable achievements. He urged the officers to intensify their efforts until insecurity is eradicated.

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, represented by Brig. Gen. Gakji Shipi, expressed optimism about the outcomes of the stakeholders’ engagement. He pledged continued support for the Nigerian Military’s efforts to combat insecurity in the state.

The meeting underscores the federal government’s commitment to addressing security concerns in Plateau State and promoting peaceful coexistence among its citizens.
