UNIMAID Threatens IIJ Abuja over Alleged Affiliation

Spread the love

The management of the University of Maiduguri, Borno State has threatened legal action against the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ), Abuja over affiliation claim with the university.

A Senate member of the University, who craved anonymity, stated this to some journalists on telephone over the weekend.

IIJ, an institute owned by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), is enmeshed in allegations of certificate forgery.

The management of the school was recently drag to the FCT Police Command over allegations of certificate forgery that involved Grace Ike, Ndambabo Yahaya Jide Oyekunle and Sandra Ogochukwu Udeike all who were controversially elected as executives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, FCT Council.

The aforementioned persons are alleged to have fraudulently obtained statements of results and a certificate from the Institute, with the help of the former national executive of the NUJ.

Speaking, the UNIMAID Don said they recently read in some online media about allegations of forgery in an institution said to be affiliated to the university, but stated that there was no such existing affiliation.
“We consider this to be criminal in nature and efforts are on to address this anomaly,” the official said.

Speaking further, he said, “they (IIJ) did not comply with the regulations. So, they are not supposed to issue any certificate or statement of result with the affiliation to the University of Maiduguri on it.

“So any certificate that they claim is from the university is not from the university. So if they issue certificate in their name, that is their own business, but it has nothing to do with the University of Maiduguri.”

Further, the Senate Member said, “any certificate, forged or not, is not from the university. If they were affiliated to UNIMAID, the university would have a way to regulate their certificates. It is only the university that will give the certificate. They will have to come and collect them from the university and issue.

“So, now the university can take them to court for taking its name when they were not supposed to do that.”
