Breaking News: Military Rampage in Okpare-Olomu Community of Delta State Causes Residents to Flee
In a shocking turn of events, men suspected to be personnel of the the Nigerian military have reportedly gone on a rampage in the Okpare-Olomu community, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State. The soldiers, it was gathered on Thursday, allegedly assaulted women who were demonstrating against the cancellation of their annual conference.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that the military personnel may have been hired by certain town elders currently under investigation for the unlawful sale of community land.
This incident has sparked outrage and fear among the residents of the area.
The Street Reporters Newspaper recalls that earlier this year, the Okuama Community in the same local government area experienced a similar invasion by soldiers leading to the shutdown of the community. This followed a brutal attack on military personnel during a rescue mission by the 181 Amphibious Battalion, resulting in the deaths of several officers.
The current situation in Okpare-Olomu has forced many able-bodied men to flee the community, leaving behind a tense and fearful atmosphere.
Women who spoke to our source called for immediate intervention by relevant authorities to restore peace and order in the community to avoid preventable catastrophe and unnecessary deaths in the local government area.
