The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development is partnering with state governments to train youth in jewellery making towards achieving the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Mary Ogbe, disclosed this on Tuesday 25th February 2025, when she visited the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development Laurel School of Miners, Jewellery Center, Airport Road, Abuja.
She encouraged the students undergoing training of Mines Jewellery to take their training seriously so as to better their future by creating significant impact on the Nigerian Economy through the mining sector.
“The students should not learn the skills and throw it away. That is why there is method of selection so that the training is valuable.” she added.
She said that the purpose of her visit is for the Ministry to support the development of the School of Mines Jewellery training Centre, which is in line with the President’s mandate.
Impressed with their work, she pledged that the Federal government would partner with State governments to train more youth in jewelry making.
She expressed appreciation to the Honourable Minister of Solid Minerals, Dr Dele Alake, for his support so far.
Earlier the Consultant who is also the head of the Laurel school Jewellery Training Center in Abuja Mr. Tope Adebanjo disclosed that the Jewery training Centre is to create jobs and galvanize the industry for export of Nigeria made Jewelries which can be sold locally and internationally.
According to him, the training center is the continuation of Federal Government contracts with Midiver, which ended last year.
The Laurel school of miners, he said, entered another 10-year contract with the Federal government under the supervision of the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development.
Mr. Tope further said that the training of students for school of Jewellery Center is based on selection.
He explained that few students were selected from Master students who had graduated from the school of Jewellery Center.
The best students, according to him, are called advance students who are now undergoing higher training on production of Jewellery.
He solicited more support from the Ministry to improve the facilities at the training center.
