As part of his ongoing commitment to building a “New Nigeria,” Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, visited Governor Bala Mohammed in Bauchi State. Speaking about the purpose of the visit, Obi emphasized its importance in fostering dialogue and collaboration for Nigeria’s progress.
“Yesterday, as part of my commitment to the New Nigeria project, I visited Governor Bala Mohammed in Bauchi State to discuss the state of our nation and explore ways to move our people forward,” Obi stated. Highlighting the challenges facing the nation, Obi explained that these conversations are vital to addressing Nigeria’s current realities, especially in the northern region.
During his discussions with Governor Mohammed, Obi reflected on the economic hardships affecting Nigerians and emphasized the urgent need for transformational leadership. “We had meaningful conversations about governance and the economic hardships currently facing Nigerians, especially in the North,” he revealed.
Obi stressed that inclusive and competent leadership, which transcends political, religious, and ethnic differences, is necessary to drive progress. “We reflected on the need for competent and inclusive leadership that transcends political, religious, and ethnic lines, prioritizes prudent resource management, and implements policies that will enhance the welfare of our citizens,” he explained.
The Labour Party candidate also reiterated his vision of a “New Nigeria” built on the principles of good governance, transparency, and accountability. He noted that achieving this vision requires investing in critical sectors that have a direct impact on the lives of Nigerians. “At this critical time, we must continue to engage, consult, and invest in initiatives that lift our people out of poverty and criminality while fostering a more productive and equitable society,” Obi said.
He further outlined his dedication to improving education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation, describing these sectors as fundamental to national development. “As always, my commitment remains steadfast in building a New Nigeria—one where good governance, transparency, and accountability drive national development. This includes investing in critical sectors such as education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation,” he asserted.
