Nigeria and Bangladesh Deepen Bilateral Ties Through Defence and Agricultural Cooperation

In a landmark meeting held in Abuja, Nigeria and Bangladesh have expressed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations through enhanced cooperation in defence and agriculture. This was disclosed during a courtesy visit by the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Nigeria, H.E. Mansur Rahman, to the Honourable Minister of Defence, H.E. Mohammed Badaru Abubakar CON, mni, at Ship House.
The discussions centered on leveraging the military’s capabilities to address critical development needs beyond traditional combat roles.
Minister Badaru emphasized the importance of integrating military personnel into non-combat sectors such as agriculture, construction, and infrastructure development.
He underscored the potential benefits, noting that this initiative would ensure productive engagement for military personnel during peacetime, while also enhancing their economic welfare and contributing to national development.
Highlighting the importance of the initiative, Minister Badaru stated, “This cooperation aims to empower our military personnel with diverse skills that are transferable to civilian sectors. It is an opportunity to foster economic stability and community development while ensuring our serviceively engaged.”
The High Commissioner of Bangladesh, H.E. Mansur Rahman, lauded the initiative and reaffirmed his country’s commitment to the partnership.
He highlighted the significance of involving the military in civilian-driven sectors, noting that such collaboration could serve as a model for sustainable development. Additionally, the High Commissioner emphasized the potential of defence cooperation to boost Nigeria’s blue economy, creating opportunities for economic expansion and innovation.
Both parties agreed on the value of sharing experiences and best practices, particularly in agriculture and defence, as these areas hold immense potential for collaboration.
