Widows benefiting from the Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme across the 25 local government areas of the state have commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the prompt payment of their August 2026 monthly stipends.
The beneficiaries, who spoke during the scheme’s monthly prayer session held in Udu Local Government Area, described the timely financial support as a major relief at a time many households are grappling with rising economic pressures.
The widows said the regular stipends had continued to provide meaningful assistance in meeting basic household needs, while also giving beneficiaries a sense of dignity, inclusion and renewed hope.
Speaking on the development, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Social Investment Programmes, Widows Welfare Scheme and Livelihood Support Unit, Elder Isioma Okonta, commended Governor Oborevwori for sustaining his administration’s focus on vulnerable residents.
Okonta said the prompt payment of the monthly stipends reflected the governor’s commitment to improving the welfare and living conditions of widows across the state.
He said, “We appreciate our Governor, my boss, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his uncommon commitment to the welfare of widows.
“His prompt payment of monthly stipends to beneficiaries across the 25 LGAs is a clear demonstration of his readiness to ensure the wellbeing of Deltans across the board.”
According to him, the welfare initiative had brought relief and renewed hope to thousands of widows, particularly those who depend on the monthly support to provide food and other essential needs for their families.
The beneficiaries, in separate remarks at the prayer session, expressed appreciation to the governor for sustaining the programme and ensuring that the monthly financial assistance reached them promptly.
One of the beneficiaries said, “We are praying for our Governor because His Excellency has remembered us.”
The widows subsequently offered prayers for Governor Oborevwori, asking God to grant him wisdom, strength, good health and long life to continue serving the people of Delta State.
They also prayed for the continuity of the administration’s MORE agenda beyond 2027, pledging to mobilise their families, friends and associates in support of its continued implementation.
The beneficiaries said the sustained welfare intervention had demonstrated that widows and other vulnerable groups remained an important component of the state government’s social investment efforts.
