In his Easter message to Nigerians, Hon. Alabi Kolade David, Chairman of Conference 57 and former National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), extended warm greetings to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the people of Lagos State while calling for renewed commitment to peace across the country.
Hon. Kolade, who also serves as Chairman of Bariga Local Council, expressed deep concern over the ongoing violence in Plateau, Benue, Zamfara, Enugu, Kaduna, and other regions. He lamented the loss of innocent lives and urged the nation to stand firmly against senseless bloodshed, emphasizing the need to support Christian “martyrs” and all victims of violence.
“The cries of the bereaved echo around the states,” Kolade stated, condemning the killings in the strongest terms. He called for urgent action from security agencies, advocating for intensified efforts through community policing and intelligence gathering at the local government level to restore peace and stability.
Reflecting on the meaning of Easter, Kolade highlighted the resurrection of Jesus Christ as a powerful symbol of hope, victory over evil, and a call to uphold love, kindness, and generosity. He encouraged all Nigerians to embrace the values of peace and unity, stressing that violence and brutality must have no place in society.
“The resurrection of Christ reminds us that evil is ultimately defeated and that injustice must be confronted with courage and compassion,” he said.
Kolade concluded his message with a prayer for national renewal and resilience, urging all citizens to work towards a more peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.
“May this Easter season bring hope, peace, and joy to all, and may we emerge stronger and more united in our pursuit of peace, love, and prosperity,” he said.
