A frontline chairmanship aspirant under the Labour Party (LP) for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Ifeanyichukwu Ajaegbu, has pledged to usher in a new era of digital governance and infrastructural transformation, promising to reposition AMAC as a model of development through technology and strategic investment.
Speaking at the LP’s Abuja office on Wednesday shortly after obtaining his nomination form, Hon. Ajaegbu criticised the current administration of AMAC, stating it has fallen short of expectations in delivering democratic dividends to residents. He lamented the persistence of poor infrastructure, inadequate healthcare, substandard waste management, and a general lack of transparency in the council.
“It is evident that the current leadership has performed below par in delivering the dividends to our people at the grassroots. AMAC, which should be a beacon of development and a shining example to other local governments, remains plagued by basic service delivery failures,” Ajaegbu stated.
Outlining his vision in a mission statement, the chairmanship hopeful said his administration would focus on seven core areas: infrastructure development, education, health and wellbeing, economic empowerment and job creation, economic sustainability and climate change, security, justice, and community safety.
He further promised to deploy digital tools to streamline governance processes, enhance transparency, and drive citizen engagement. “It’s time for a new leadership that prioritizes transparency, accountability, and community engagement,” he said. “My aspiration is driven by a passion to serve and to make a positive change. I am committed to upholding the values, ideologies, and principles of the Labour Party.”
In a related development, the Labour Party Chairman in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Diugwu Peter Chukwuemeka, issued a stern warning to all aspirants vying for chairmanship and councillorship positions in AMAC. He cautioned against the presentation of forged academic certificates during the nomination process.
“Do not present fake academic credentials. Do not be surprised that your family members will report you. If you have fake credentials, do not pick our forms,” Chukwuemeka warned, underlining the party’s commitment to integrity and due process.
With the race for AMAC chairmanship heating up, Hon. Ajaegbu’s tech-driven, people-focused agenda appears to signal a bold new direction for the council, should he secure the party’s ticket and emerge victorious in the upcoming elections.
