As Nigeria marks another Democracy Day on May 29, the Imo State Chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has commended Governor Hope Uzodimma for what it describes as a remarkable record of service-oriented leadership and transformative governance since he assumed office in May 2020.
ALGON Chairman in Imo State, Hon. Ikenna Adikibe, praised the governor’s achievements, calling them a testament to passion, resilience, and a commitment to good governance. He emphasized that the mid-point of Uzodimma’s administration offers an opportunity to take stock of progress made across key sectors, from infrastructure and economic revitalization to health, education, and social empowerment.
Under Uzodimma’s leadership, the state has witnessed extensive infrastructural renewal, with the completion of over 62 roads totaling 189 kilometers, and 53 more strategic routes currently under construction. Major projects include the rehabilitation of the Owerri-Onitsha Expressway and the development of new roads across the Orlu, Okigwe, and Owerri zones, with particular attention to improving rural accessibility for economic and social benefit.
The state’s economic landscape has also been reinvigorated through the revitalization of once-moribund industries such as Adapalm Nigeria Limited, the Standard Shoe Company Limited, and the Nsu Tile Industries. These efforts have not only boosted production capacities but also generated employment and stimulated local enterprise.
Empowerment initiatives like the SkillUp Imo digital training program and the One Kindred, One Business Initiative (OKOBI) have provided thousands of young people and entrepreneurs with tools for economic self-reliance. Women and youth-focused programs continue to enhance inclusiveness and participation in the state’s economic growth.
In the health sector, the introduction of the Imo State Health Insurance Scheme has expanded healthcare access, particularly for vulnerable groups. The administration has established new healthcare facilities and upgraded existing ones, ensuring that residents benefit from improved medical services.
The education sector has similarly benefited, with the expansion of higher education through the establishment of new universities and the improvement of infrastructure in existing institutions. Scholarship programs and educational support initiatives have further increased access to quality learning across the state.
As Governor Uzodimma continues into his second term, ALGON has reaffirmed its support for his administration’s collaborative governance approach, underscoring the productive partnership between the state and its 27 Local Government Areas. With a continued focus on infrastructural development and shared prosperity, Imo State is charting a forward-looking path anchored in inclusive growth and sustainable progress.
Hon. Adikibe’s message reflects a broader sentiment of optimism and pride as the state celebrates the achievements of the past six years and looks ahead to an even brighter future.
