Nigeria’s Honourable Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting families of military personnel who die in active service, declaring that the Armed Forces would never abandon those left behind by fallen heroes.
The minister gave the assurance on Tuesday while receiving Mr. Hassan Braimah, brother of the late Oseni Omoh Braimah, at the Ministry of Defence in Abuja.
Brigadier General Braimah, a senior Infantry officer of the Nigerian Army and Commander of the 29 Task Force Brigade, died in active service at Benisheikh on April 9, 2026. He was buried with full military honours at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri on April 15 alongside seven other personnel who also lost their lives in the line of duty.
Speaking during the visit, Hassan Braimah recalled his late brother’s dedication to national service and described him as a committed and courageous officer who served the country with distinction. He said the family remained proud of the late General’s sacrifice and pledged continued support for the dependants and loved ones he left behind.
Responding, General Musa conveyed the condolences of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Nigeria to the bereaved family, while stressing that the welfare of families of fallen military personnel remains a priority for the government.
“The Armed Forces will never abandon the families of those who lay down their lives for this country,” the minister stated. “We remain committed to providing assistance, care and direct access to the Ministry whenever needed.”
The Defence Minister further reiterated the Ministry’s open-door policy, assuring the family that support structures remain available to ensure that the sacrifices of military personnel are not forgotten.
The meeting, according to a statement signed by Leah Babatunde, Special Adviser on Media to the Minister, highlighted the nation’s appreciation for the sacrifices made by members of the Armed Forces and underscored the government’s resolve to preserve their legacy through sustained support for their families.
