ABUJA, NIGERIA — The Rotary Club of Abuja United has officially become a chartered member of Rotary International, marking a significant milestone in its journey to expand humanitarian service, ethical leadership and community development across Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory.
The club announced in a statement that Rotary International issued its Charter Certificate on July 16, 2026, formally admitting the Rotary Club of Abuja United into the global network of Rotary clubs. The development makes the club a fully recognized Rotary International club entitled to all the rights, privileges and responsibilities of Rotary membership.
According to the statement signed by the Charter Secretary, Rtn. Comrade James Ezema, the charter represents the successful culmination of months of dedication, teamwork and commitment by the club’s founding members, whose vision has now earned global recognition.
The statement explained that the Charter Certificate confirms the club’s admission after its officers and members agreed to be governed by the Constitution and Bylaws of Rotary International, thereby becoming part of one of the world’s foremost humanitarian service organizations.
The Rotary Club of Abuja United was officially chartered with 20 members but has already expanded its membership to 23, reflecting growing interest in the club’s service-oriented mission.
Moments after receiving confirmation of the historic achievement, the Charter President, Rtn. Marcel Ezenwa, placed a telephone call to the District Governor of Rotary International District 9127, Rtn. Sikiru Adetola Owonikoko, to convey the club’s heartfelt appreciation for the district’s unwavering support and leadership throughout the charter process.
Earlier, the District Governor had congratulated the newly chartered club through its Charter Adviser and Assistant Governor, Rtn. Mariam Abdullahi, who was commended for providing exceptional mentorship, guidance and steadfast commitment that ensured the successful completion of the charter process.
The club expressed profound gratitude to both the District Governor and the Assistant Governor, describing their leadership, encouragement and dedication as instrumental to the successful establishment of the Rotary Club of Abuja United.
Looking ahead, the club pledged to champion Rotary International’s humanitarian ideals by implementing impactful community service projects, promoting ethical leadership, strengthening fellowship and supporting sustainable development initiatives within the Federal Capital Territory and beyond.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with Rotary clubs across District 9127 and around the world to advance Rotary’s core areas of focus, including peacebuilding, disease prevention, maternal and child health, basic education and literacy, environmental sustainability, and economic empowerment.
The statement further acknowledged the sacrifices and commitment of the club’s charter members, supporters and well-wishers, noting that their collective efforts made the historic achievement possible.
With its official admission into Rotary International, the Rotary Club of Abuja United said it is prepared to uphold Rotary’s enduring motto, “Service Above Self,” while making lasting contributions to humanity through impactful service projects and partnerships aimed at transforming lives and communities.
