IGBERE, ABIA STATE — Labour Party candidate for the House of Representatives in Bende Federal Constituency, Dr. Chima Anyaso, has issued a strong condemnation of an alleged incident of military brutality in Igbere, declaring that the people of the community will no longer tolerate intimidation or the use of armed personnel against civilians.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Igbere, Anyaso expressed concern over reports that soldiers were allegedly deployed by unidentified individuals to manhandle members of the community.
“I heard that some people came to Igbere and used soldiers to manhandle our people,” Anyaso said.
He then made a firm declaration: “I want to declare that never again will such be allowed in Igbere Land.” 
Anyaso described the alleged incident as unacceptable, insisting that the presence of security personnel in a community must be aimed at protecting citizens and maintaining peace, rather than intimidating or subjecting residents to abuse.
“We are a peaceful people. We welcome development, we welcome law and order, but we will not accept intimidation of our men, women and youths,” he said.
The LP candidate called on security agencies to operate strictly within the law and urged traditional rulers, community leaders, youth organisations and other stakeholders to pursue dialogue as the preferred means of resolving disputes.
His comments came amid concerns over alleged security operations in parts of Bende Local Government Area. Some residents claimed that disputes involving land and political disagreements had resulted in the deployment of armed personnel into communities.
However, the specific circumstances surrounding the incident referenced by Anyaso could not be independently verified at press time.
Anyaso further pledged that the protection of citizens’ rights and the promotion of healthy civil-military relations would remain important components of his legislative agenda if elected to represent Bende Federal Constituency.
He urged the people of Igbere to remain peaceful and law-abiding while insisting that peace must not be confused with submission to intimidation.
“Igbere will remain open to peace, but closed to oppression,” he declared.
Efforts to obtain a reaction from military authorities regarding the allegation were unsuccessful as of press time.
The Bende Federal Constituency race is expected to intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with candidates across political parties increasingly taking their campaigns and political engagements to the grassroots.
