#NigeriaDecicides: Land, Sea Borders Shuts Ahead Presidential Polls

NigeriaFederal Government of Nigeria on midnight Wednesday closured of its land and sea borders with three days to the presidential election between two main rivals, incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan and former military ruler, General Muhammadu Buhari.
The borders were shut early hours of Thursday, March 25, 2015 at 12 midnight until midnight on March 28, 2015, a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Mr. Abubakar Magaji, said.

The election comes up on Saturday, March 28, 2015.

The statement said President Goodluck Jonathan has also directed the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to ensure that non-Nigerians do not participate in any part of the election process.

It said the closures would allow for a peaceful conduct of the election.

There have been fears that some foreign mercenaries may be brought in from neighbouring  countries to cause mayhem should a particular candidate loses the presidential election.

There was post-election violence in the country after Nigeria’s 2011 presidential election.
