Eid-el-Fitri: FRSC Institutes 144 Mobile Courts, Deploys 21,000 Personnel, 700 Patrol Vehicles
TheStreetReporters.com has gathered that the Federal Road Safety Corps said it has instituted 144 mobile courts, deployed 21, 000 road marshals and 700 patrol vehicles nationwide to monitor motorists during the Eid-el-Fitri celebration.
Daily Post reports that the FRSC Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi, made this known during the flag-off of nationwide special Eid-el-fitr patrol, in Kaduna on Wednesday.
Oyeyemi said ambulances and recovery vehicles were also deployed throughout the country, to ensure prompt response to emergencies and removal of obstructions on the highway within an hour in any part of the country.
Oyeyemi said the patrol, which commences nationwide on Thursday, will last till July 25, adding that the measure was to ensure that drivers complied with all traffic rules and regulations throughout the Sallah celebrations.
He said 144 mobile courts have been specially instituted to prosecute traffic violators in a bid to enforce compliance and keep Nigerian roads safe.
According to him, throughout the patrol, emphasis will be placed on traffic violations, which include overloading, driving under the influence of drug and alcohol and using of phone while driving among others.
He said: “From the beginning of the year, I made it clear that we will be laying more emphasis on prosecution of road traffic offenders and this is a clear case, as you can see.
“We have 144 mobile courts, sitting and prosecuting road traffic and regulation offenders and hopefully, we would increase the mobile courts to about 200 before the end of the year.”
The corps marshal however noted that the FRSC needed the support of members of the public to be able to effectively curtail road crashes especially during festive periods.
Oyeyemi said: “Drivers must desist from overloading, driving under fatigue, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and must desist from using phone while driving.
“They should also ensure their tires are in good condition to avoid blowout.
“The more we sustain this kind of culture the better for the nation.”
