Former Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has stepped up high-level political consultations aimed at strengthening unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State and across the North-West geopolitical zone as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 general elections.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday by his Personal Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mati Ali, the former minister was said to have intensified strategic engagements with party leaders, political stakeholders and grassroots supporters in a bid to consolidate internal cohesion and mobilize support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to the statement, Badaru renewed the consultations shortly after returning to Nigeria in early February from his end-of-year vacation abroad, with a renewed focus on strengthening the party’s structures and advancing the administration’s policy agenda.
“Since returning to Nigeria in early February 2026 from his end-of-year vacation abroad, H.E. Badaru Abubakar has renewed efforts to consolidate party cohesion, deepen grassroots mobilization, and build strategic momentum toward the 2027 elections,” the statement said.
It added that the engagements are strategically directed at securing President Tinubu’s second term while reinforcing support for the government’s reform programme.
“His engagements are clearly focused on securing the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda,” the statement noted.
The former Jigawa State governor also used the opportunity to caution party leaders against internal disputes that could undermine preparations for the next electoral cycle.
“It is deeply regrettable that certain elected officials within the APC, across various levels, have allowed internal leadership disputes and personal interests to divert attention from core governance priorities and long-term strategic political planning,” the statement said.
It warned that such divisions could weaken electoral readiness and slow the implementation of the president’s agenda.
“Such tendencies not only weaken preparations for upcoming elections but also undermine the effective advancement of the President Bola Tinubu Renewed Hope Agenda,” it added.
The statement further highlighted Badaru’s recent return to his hometown of Babura in Jigawa State, where he formally received his validated APC membership registration card in the presence of a large gathering of party supporters.
“At the event, he publicly reiterated his firm dedication to securing President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027,” the statement said, adding that the massive turnout demonstrated “strong grassroots solidarity and widespread endorsements.”
Beyond party lines, Badaru has also broadened his consultations to include leaders from other political parties in what aides described as a move aimed at promoting reconciliation and national unity.
Among the political figures he has recently hosted at his Abuja and Kano residences are former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Jigawa State, Mustapha Sule Lamido; Senators Sabo Mohammed Nakudu and Ubali Shitu; as well as Mallam Aminu Ibrahim Ringim, who had previously contested governorship elections under the PDP and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The former minister also paid a courtesy visit to former Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido, at his Kano residence as part of the ongoing consultations.
“These high-level engagements underscore his commitment to dialogue, mutual understanding, and strategic alignment aimed at advancing national development and consolidating broad-based support for President Tinubu ahead of 2027,” the statement said.
The statement also recalled Badaru’s role in the 2023 presidential campaign, where he served as Regional Coordinating Chairman (North) of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.
According to the statement, his leadership contributed significantly to the electoral performance of President Tinubu in the region.
“In Jigawa State, President Tinubu secured 421,390 votes, representing approximately 45.8 per cent of the valid votes cast,” the statement noted.
“Across the seven North-West states, President Tinubu recorded approximately 2,652,235 votes, representing about 30 per cent of his national vote total in the 2023 presidential election.”
It concluded that as political activities gradually build toward the 2027 polls, Badaru remains committed to strengthening democratic values and fostering unity within the ruling party.
“As preparations for the 2027 general elections gradually take shape, H.E. Mohammed Badaru Abubakar remains resolute in promoting unity, strengthening democratic values, and mobilizing broad-based support to ensure the continued success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the advancement of Nigeria’s national development agenda,” the statement added.
