A Four-member robbery gang that attacked and robbed two banks in Ikorodu, Lagos in June 24, 2015, were on Wednesday, charged before a Lagos Chief Magistrate’s Court, sitting at Ebute-Metta, on charges bordering on conspiracy and armed robbery.
The four alleged armed robbers, Kowei Victor, 42; Friday Abiwa, 20; Omolaja Omoboye, 39, and 25 years old Agbojule Bright.
The magistrate, Mrs. M. O. Olajuwon, has ordered that the four robbery suspects has been ordered that they should be remanded in prisons custody.
When the four accused persons were charged before the court on Wednesday, the prosecuting police officer, Barrister Godwin O. Osuyi, from the Legal Department of Lagos State Police Command, informed the court that the four accused persons and others now at large, had on June 24, 2015, at about 9.20 am, while armed with AK47, dynamites and other offensive weapons, robbed two banks, namely; First Bank Plc and Zenith Bank Plc.
Osuyi further informed the court that during the robbery operation which lasted for about two hours, the alleged armed robbers carted away the total sum of N99. 536 million.
The prosecutor also improved the court that the alleged armed robbers also disposed the two banks of $2.750 USD, and €120 Euro, after blow up the banks with dynamite.
He informed the court that the offences committed but the accused persons are contrary to section 297 and punishable under section 295(2) of criminal laws of Lagos state of Nigeria, 2011.
The plea of the accused persons were not taken.
The prosecutor applied to court that the accused persons be remanded in prisons custody, pending the time they will be properly arraigned before a competent court.
He said the remand application was pursuant to section 264 (1) and (2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice of Lagos state, 2011.
Consequently, the presiding magistrate, Mrs. M. O. Olajuwon, ordered that
the four robbery suspects be remanded in prisons custody, pending an advice
from the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, on the matter.
Olajuwon also ordered the prosecutor to duplicate the case file and forward it to the DPP for legal advice, while adjourned the matter till October 23.
