Stewardship: Lamorde Drags Senate, Police, DSS to Court

LamordeThe immediate past Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Larmode, has sued the Senate at the Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja for inviting him to appear before it and give account of his stewardship as the head of the anti-graft agency.

According to the suit filed on Thursday by Larmode’s counsel, Festus Keyamo, it was illegal for the Senate to compel him to appear before it regarding issues concerning an office he had vacated.

Lamorde who is being investigated for alleged misappropriation of over N1 trillion, being recovered proceeds of corruption added the Senate Committee on Ethics, Public Petitions, & Privileges, the Inspector General of Police, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services, DSS, in his suit.

The former EFCC boss in the suit is asking the court to determine whether in view of the provisions of Section 88 and 89 of the 1999 Constitution, the Senate can invite him to give account of his stewardship of an office he had already vacated.

Larmode is arguing that the senate acted unconstitutional by asking him to appear before it with a summons rather than a letter of invitation.

He added that neither the DSS nor the Police can issue a warrant against him without him receiving a summon.
