#KogiDecides: INEC Cancels Ayingba Polls Over Ballot Snatching

ballot-boxInformation reaching The Street Reporters indicates that the Independent National Electoral Commission in Kogi has cancelled the election in one unit in Itaja Ward in Ayingba in Dekina Local Government Area after hoodlums snatched a ballot box in the unit. Accreditation was still ongoing when the hoodlums attacked and carted away sensitive materials.

According to the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Halilu Pai, who confirmed the incident, security Agents managed to bring the situation under control’.

He noted that the INEC has decided that voting activities at the unit remained cancelled and that the outcome would not count at the end of the election.

Kogi State Governor, Capt. Idris Wada expressed disappointment over snatching of ballot boxes in Ibaji local government area as well as the alleged missing of sensitive electoral materials in Dekina LGA.

He made the observation at Odu Ogbeyega unit 1 after he was accredited for voting.

A mild drama ensued as the governor’s wife, Hajiya Halima Wada’s name and picture were not found on the voters’ register, though she had PVC.

The governor also lamented that despite INEC’s acclaimed readiness, the card readers failed to capture some voters.

On whether he still has confidence in INEC, Wada emphasised that his confidence in INEC was not in doubt as long as there will be free, fair and credible election.

On the other hand, the Deputy governor of Kogi State, Yomi Awoniyi said he was impressed by the initial process of the election.

Awoniyi made the remark at Mopa, in Mopamuro local government area after he was successfully accredited.
