NEMA Clears the Air Over Amnesty for 800 Repentant Boko Haram Insurgents
A source at the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has clarified the report that no fewer than 800 members of the Boko Haram group are currently undergoing vocational skills training in form of amnesty under the supervision of the office of the Chief of Defence Staff, CDS.
The NEMA Director General (DG) , Alhaji Sani Sidi who reportedly dropped the hint in Abuja, the source noted, on made the comment in passing.
The DG was said to had explained that the programme under which repentant Boko Haram insurgents are being rehabilitated tagged: “Safe Corridor Initiative”, was conceived purposely to provide a leeway for them to turn a new leaf.
The source in the Agency clarified to the The Street Reporters that the details of the operation Safe Corridor Initiative was domiciled only with the Office of the Defence Staff.
