Dr. Oweh: Why Okowa’s COVID-19 Food Palliatives Crucial to Hunger Reduction in Delta
Dr. Paul Oweh, the Commissioner representing Isoko Ethnic Nationality on the board of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) has commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s food palliatives to the vulnerables in Delta.
Oweh, a medical doctor and lawyer, spoke on Saturday at Ozoro during the distribution of the food items to the 13 Wards in the local government area.
Giving insight into the importance of the food items being distributed, he said they were crucial to the reduction of hunger among the vulnerables in the state in view of the lockdown induced by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Street Reporters Newspaper reports that he lauded the transparent process being deployed in the sharing of the items.
He noted that he was quite convinced that with the calibre of people in the Committee, most less privileged people in the Wards would benefit from the government’s gesture.
“The process of distribution has been highly credible and very transparent largely due to the structures being used from the state to the local government and here we are at the Isoko North Local government headquarters at Ozoro.
“The items are being shared evenly to all the Wards and for me, the Committee that is responsible for the sharing in the Ward is also known.
“The instruction is very clear, this is not a party affair, COVID-19 does not know PDP, APC or whatever.
“I think that is what is going on at the Wards. I am not a member of the Local Government Committee but as a leader in this Local Government, I have been here to witness and to see what is going on and I can tell you it’s been very orderly and those involved are observing social distancing and I think the objective would be largely met that these relief items got to the most vulnerable ones.
“This intervention is extremely crucial because there is no doubt at all that this lockdown as a result of COVID-19 disease has brought a lot of hardship on the people because economic activities has slowed down, poverty is on the increase as of today,” Dr. Oweh said.
He added, “so locking down for weeks will definitely bring some hardship to the people and interventions of this nature such as this one from our amiable Governor Dr Ifeanyi Okowa to the people would definitely put some smile on the faces of our people.”
