A Pro-democracy group, the Nsukka Democratic Movement (NDM) has commended the Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area, High Chief Patrick Omeje over his proactiveness and commitment to securing the lives and property of the residents of the council in line with the vision of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi administration in Enugu State.

The group gave the commendation on Tuesday in a statement signed by its National Leader, Chief Willy Ezugwu, and made available to The Street Reporters Newspaper, while reacting to media reports on how the council chairman’s alertness recently saved Nsukka community after COVID-19 scare in the ancient town.
NDM noted that it was heartwarming to receive the report that a corpse was smuggled through the Kogi – Enugu border through Okpuje/Okutu/Anuka Ward from Kano State but was intercepted by the vigilant council chairman.
“We highly commend Hon. Patrick Omeje, for living up to the directive by the Executive Governor of Enugu State to all the 17 Council Chairmen in the state to mobilise and police borders of their local government that are contiguous with other states.
“For us, the reported gallantry by the Chairman who got wind of the corpse that was already deposited at the Bishop Shannahan Specialists Hospital during his routine checks and ordered that those who perpetrated the act be tracked and apprehended is worthy of accolades.
“Now that Nsukka local government has a proactive leader like Hon. Patrick Omeje, we enjoin all residents of the council to give all their support to the council boss to ensure good governance and security of the local government.
“We therefore call of the people to be more vigilant and keep the borders tightly manned at this time to avert an outbreak of COVID19 in Nsukka or the environs”, the statement read.
