#COVID19: Gov. Ugwuanyi Addresses Ndi Enugu on Precautionary Measures

…Gives Directives on Markets’ Operation, Says All Previous Measures, Regulations Remain in Force

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, in a broadcast, today, addressed the people of the state on the precautionary measures put in place to contain the spread of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).

Gov. Ugwuanyi who expressed profound gratitude to Ndi Enugu for “their unflinching support and loyalty” directed that all markets in the state, with the exception of Ogbete Main Market, Enugu, are to operate between 7am and 4pm only, with effect from Monday, May 11, 2020.

The governor, however, pointed out that “it is important to emphasize that all previous measures and regulations put in place by the state government remain in force”.

He explained that the decision to regulate the operational times of the markets, was to enable affected traders arrive their homes ahead of the Federal Government’s 8pm to 6am curfew.

Gov. Ugwuanyi who said that the state government has observed that markets in the state now operate beyond the normal time allowed by the measures and regulations put in place to contain the pandemic, maintained that the Ogbete Main Market, Enugu will continue to operate strictly in accordance with the earlier directives of the state government on the partial and guided reopening of the market.

The guideline as it relates to Ogbete includes: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, between 8am and 2pm, for pharmaceutical dealers, provisions/consumer goods sellers and restaurants operators. Tuesdays and Thursdays are reserved for wholesale food dealers between 8am and 2pm.

Gov. Ugwuanyi, therefore, encouraged the people of the state “to continue to abide by all the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) protocol including the use face masks/ covering in public, maintaining of social/physical distancing and high level of personal hygiene”.
