The South East APC Presidency Project 2023 has expressed disbelief that the National Caretaker Committee of Nigeria‘s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) failed to include a single member from the South East as a member of its 10-man Mobilization Committee on membership registration.
The National Coordinator of the South-East APC Presidency Project 2023, Chinedu Jideofo-Ogbuagu, in a statement on Wednesday expressed shock that the region has no single representative in such all important committee.
According to the statement made available to The Street Reporters Newspaper, the committee was inaugurated on the 12th January 2021.
โWe note with utter disbelief that the National Caretaker Committee of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), on 12th January 2021 inaugurated a 10-man national committee for membership registration/revalidation without even one South-Easterner in the Committee.
โWe would rather believe that this was a careless oversight on the part of the persons who compiled that list.
โAnd we expect that the Governor Mala Buni-led National Caretaker Committee will now correct that reckless errorโ, the APC Presidency group observed.
Arguing the region’s APC group said it โwill not request that anyone already inaugurated should be removed to accommodate the South-Eastโ, Chinedu Jideofo-Ogbuagu suggested how such oversight must be remedied.
โRather, we hereby call for immediate increase of the number of members of the Mobilization Committee to 12 and two South-Easterners also appointed and inaugurated.
โLike in the other five geopolitical zones, proper mobilization for membership registration/revalidation must hold in the South-East APC and only South Easterners will be welcomed to lead the process in that geopolitical zoneโ, the group warned.
It will be recalled that not a few South eastern leaders have accused of ruling party of marginalisation of Igbos in appointments in the last six years of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
