2023 Presidential Election: South East APC Shortlists 10 Aspirants for Next Nomination Process
Ahead of the 2023 presidential election, the All Progressives Congress (APC), South East, has shortlisted 10 possible presidential candidates in continuation of its nomination process for the emergence of a President of Nigeria of South East extraction at the end of President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure.
The Convener of the South-East APC Integrity Group, Dr. Chinedu Jideofo-Ogbuagu who made this known on Thursday noted the nominees shall be narrowed down to five.
He noted that the “10 shortlisted possible 2023 presidential aspirants of South East extraction on APC platform” will go into the next stage of the selection process.
The 10 shortlisted individuals are (in surname alphabetical order):
- Chime Sullivan Iheanacho.
- Ibe Chris Chikwado.
- Kalu Orji Uzor.
- Mgbada Francis Nomeh.
- Nnamani Ken.
- Nwajiuba Chukwuemeka.
- Obi Peter.
- Okorocha Rochas Anayo.
- Onu Ogbonnaya.
- Umahi David Nweze.
According to Dr. Jideofo-Ogbuagu, the “result of the second ballot exercise will be announced by 12 mid-day of Sunday, 20th June 2021.”
The ten nominees were shortlisted after online balloting process.
The Street Reporters Newspaper gathered that the final list of nominees are to be presented to the ruling APC for consideration for as 2023 Presidential flagbearer of the party by the South East APC Presidency Project 2023 group.
The list were from earlier shortlisted from 17 nominees.
The seventeen nominees were:
- Hon Dr Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba.
- HE Engr David Nweze Umahi.
- HE Dr Ogbonnaya Onu.
- HE Sen Ken Nnamani.
- Chief Chris Chikwado Ibe.
- Hon Chike Okafor.
- HE Barr Sullivan Iheanacho Chime.
- Hon Barr Geoffrey Onyeama.
- HE Sen Dr Orji Uzor Kalu.
- Mr Osita Okechukwu.
- HE Sen Rochas Anayo Okorocha.
- HE Dr Chris Nwabueze Ngige.
- Sen Julius Ali Ucha.
- Barr Sharon Ikeazor.
- Sen Osita Izunaso.
- Chief Francis Nomeh Mgbada.
- HE Mr Peter Obi (Honorary).
The second ballot in the process of selecting the preferred possible presidential aspirant of South-East APC Presidency Project 2023 Holds on June 18 and 19, 2021.
“In the second ballot that will produce the 5 highest-scoring individuals out of 10 individuals shortlisted from the first ballot, 75 duly nominated members of South-East APC (5 from each senatorial zone of the 15 senatorial zones of the South-East geopolitical zone) will select by open-secret online ballot the 5 individuals from the 10 shortlisted possible 2023 presidential aspirants of South-East extraction on APC platform that will go into the next stage of the selection process”, Dr. Jideofo-Ogbuagu explained in a statement.
