The Nigeria Policy Group has thrown its weight behind Abubakar Malami, SAN, a former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, who recently emerged the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State, describing him as a leader capable of delivering economic revitalization, inclusive governance and sustainable development across the state.
In a statement signed by Khadijah Usman, the group said Malami’s candidacy represents a fresh opportunity to address the economic and social challenges confronting Kebbi residents.
According to the group, “in a period marked by rising public demand for effective governance, economic revitalization, and inclusive development, Abubakar Malami, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Governorship Candidate in Kebbi State, has emerged as a prominent voice advocating for meaningful change and a people-centered administration.”
The statement noted that citizens across Kebbi State continue to grapple with economic hardship, unemployment, agricultural inefficiencies and infrastructure deficits, arguing that these challenges require visionary and responsive leadership.
“Across Kebbi State, from urban centers to rural communities, citizens continue to express concern over economic hardship, youth unemployment, agricultural inefficiencies, and infrastructural gaps,” the group stated.
It added that Malami’s emergence on the political scene has been welcomed by many supporters who believe he can reposition the state for growth and development.
“Against this backdrop, Abubakar Malami’s emergence has been widely described as a renewed opportunity to redefine governance and reposition the state for sustainable growth,” the statement said.
The Nigeria Policy Group further described the ADC candidate as a firm believer in transparency, accountability and grassroots participation.
According to the statement, Malami has consistently advocated “the need for leadership that listens to the people and responds with practical, measurable solutions.”
The group maintained that his political philosophy is centered on rebuilding public trust in government and ensuring that development projects reach communities across the state.
“His political message centers on restoring trust in governance and ensuring that development reaches every ward and local government area,” it stated.
Highlighting agriculture as a critical component of Kebbi’s economy, the group said Malami’s policy focus includes improving access to credit for farmers, strengthening rural infrastructure and promoting agribusiness opportunities.
Supporters, it said, regard him as a leader with “a deep understanding of Kebbi’s socio-economic realities, particularly in agriculture.”
The statement added: “His policy direction places strong emphasis on modernizing agriculture, improving access to credit for farmers, strengthening rural infrastructure, and expanding value-chain opportunities for agribusiness development.”
The group also praised what it described as Malami’s commitment to education, healthcare, youth empowerment and job creation.
“Malami’s vision includes robust investment in education, healthcare reform, youth empowerment programs, and job creation initiatives aimed at reducing unemployment and fostering self-reliance among young people,” the statement said.
According to the group, Kebbi State is approaching a critical political moment in which leadership choices will have far-reaching consequences for development and prosperity.
“Political observers note that Kebbi State stands at a defining moment where leadership choices will significantly shape its developmental trajectory,” it said.
The group further argued that Malami is increasingly being viewed by his supporters as “a candidate offering fresh ideas, renewed energy, and a governance model rooted in inclusion and performance.”
It also commended his calls for unity and cooperation across political, ethnic and social divides.
“His message of unity has also resonated strongly across diverse communities in the state,” the statement noted, adding that he has positioned himself as “a proponent of peace, stability, and collective progress.”
The Nigeria Policy Group concluded that Malami represents what many citizens are seeking in leadership: a commitment to institutional reform, citizen empowerment and sustainable development.
“As the political landscape continues to evolve, growing attention is being placed on candidates who can combine vision with action,” the statement said.
It added that for many of his supporters, “his candidacy is not just political—it is a movement for renewal, accountability, and a better future for Kebbi State.”
The endorsement comes as political stakeholders continue to position themselves ahead of future electoral contests in Kebbi State, with governance, economic growth and youth development expected to dominate public debate.
