Owo Church Massacre: Threat Against Peaceful Co-existence in Nigeria is Increasingly Becoming Unbearable
Coalition for A Better Nigeria totally condemns gruesome murder and unprovoked killing of innocent People in Owo, Ondo State, where over 40 Worshippers were reportedly killed by Gunmen, who stormed Saint Francis Catholic Church, Owa – luwa Street, Owo, which is less than 200 meters away from the Palace of Olowo of Owo, during a Sunday service.
The armed men reportedly fired into the Congregation leaving many dead while others were injured. It was as well reported that a priest was kidnapped.
Some days ago, it was Kogi, last Month Taraba and Yobe. Today is Owo. We are yet to see any State in Nigeria including Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, that has not been attacked by Gunmen and regrettably, the successful Governments have been helpless in this regard since advent of this democracy.
What makes this latest attack unique is because it was carried out in Owo, the hometown of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, of Ondo State, Chairman, Southwest Governors’ Forum as well as Chairman, Southern Governors’ Forum, whose policies have been restrictive of notorious herdsmen and residents of the State have been enjoying improved security.
Therefore, we simply see this attack as a warning from the foreign Terrorists to Governor, who played a leading role in the birth of Security outfit for the Southwest Region popularly known as Amotekun.
This situation has now become “Omo Baba e ma jin nan si’le, Ota po o”, “Baba Children, don’t go far away from your House, enemies are many”. “It’s no retreat, no surrender”.
We therefore call on both the Federal and State Governments to double their efforts in such a way that as soon as possible, the entire Country will start singing a new song security wise. “A stitch in time saves nine”.
