Our Outgoing President: A Tolerable Human Being Forced To Bend Over Backwards For Partisan Sake
“No Matter The Gange-up Of Unrestrained Looters, The Lord Is Still On The Throne.”
“All of these internal manipulations and incongruity have made it look as if the president never cares, but he does. The problem is with his handlers, some party juggernauts, including some of our northern brothers who are unable to contain the challenges and competition that abound, and try to drum into the minds of this good man. They play into his mind the need to be cautious about people, out of their religious consideration, making the president to think that he is not being appreciated, except by them, and he now apparently feels insecure.”
“This President is one person I have observed who is not easily moved to massage the public ego.
But he is always willing to protect those who had shown sufficient reason to gain his trust, even when they become unruly in the eyes of the public by taking advantage of the trust he reposed in them.
He never easily exposes them to ridicule, except in situations where one amongst those of his trusted men decides to complain inexcusably about a colleague or against one in the Presidency or his cabinet over what Buhari himself had not thought necessary to do, and the person persists on it.
Owing to bias or public scandal, the President may go ahead in the public interest, to respond to the numerous complaints previously made against this particular individual, given the individual’s attitude of grandstanding, the person may end up being fired.”
I promised myself, as a communicator, and a partisan politician long ago during my crossing-over pledge from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) after my ordeal in the year of the Lord, 2014, that I will only work and support the current President, Muhammadu Buhari from the North as the party flag bearer, and after his tenure, I will not be involved in any presidential campaign (If I am still in politics) but concentrate on seeing who becomes the Governor of my state, Cross River State, and the chairman of my Local Government respectively, beside my service to the Lord my God and Redeemer.
Since politics they say, is local, I intend to address myself to affirm that dictum. And only on one exception shall I renege on that proclamation and vows.
I must say here again, for the benefit of those who continue to read my articles but do not know me well enough, that I am not an Igbo person. I am from Cross River State. We also bear the name “Obi”, it is mostly found with people from the central senatorial district of our state. I have never in all my life met with an Obi who is dull.
They may not necessarily be wealthy depending on their circumstances of birth and choices or value in life, but they’re strong-willed and uncowed.
Following in that instance I had said it openly that If I should find a man ordained by the Lord of all creations as Buhari is, (O yes!) I would reconsider my stance.
This is, despite his being overwhelmed by evil men adorn, unknown to many Nigerians, who populate the party hierarchy and their collaborators outside the presidency, both from the South, North, and Eastern parts of the country who, as alleged are those who have coerced him to bend over backward in the name of Democracy, the Nigerian version and purging him of his military propensity like King David to God Almighty in the scriptures, who was to deal decisively with issues especially that of corruption and lack of accountability in the system including unevenness in wealth distribution on account of profligacy by those in authority entrusted with the people’s commonwealth.
These evil men with their accomplices; come, henchmen, and party bigwigs, poised as advisers and those meant to compliment the president within the executive arm and the presidency with straight faces, used all types of distractive stratagem to muscle his resolve not to do for Nigeria as was expected, that which he had opted to do for his type in his heart originally; in line with the reason of his ordination by the Lord of all creation, that brought him out to redeem Nigeria at such a time that he came.
Nevertheless, he is still intrinsically a self-satisfied human being who is so afraid to hurt his maker and had managed to live up to its bidding.
This is why those within the party hierarchy and outside of it who are considered to be his allies or critics think he is weak, incorrigible, and insensitive to issues that need decisive action including but not limited or avoiding taking similar actions against their numerous and uncomplimentary behaviors and record of activities from those who were to help him to succeed but are inarguably those who now ambush him daily in the cause of trying to insist on their turn to rule Nigeria even when he has not completed his tenure proper.
A situation where he is being blackmailed by elements who were being encouraged from a particular part of the country who write and render abusive words and evil accusations to bring down his government, and now being forced to endorse a rival and one who is not among his choice of candidates to succeed him as alleged, against which he is fairly uncomfortable with but had to cooperate barely because of partisanship.
This President is one person I have observed who is not easily moved to massage the public ego.
Owing to bias or public scandal, the President may go ahead in the public interest, to respond to the numerous complaints previously made against this particular individual, given the individual’s attitude of grandstanding, the person may end up being fired.
Under no circumstances had he waked up, as the president, and openly complained commonly against the inadequacies of those he has saddled with certain responsibilities even when there is a public outcry. That is his way of exercising compassion over human frailty towards sinfulness and his consideration to encourage repentance.
But most of the appointees abuse that gesture, often with impunity. You can’t say it’s the fault of the President, would you?
That’s President Buhari for you. This is why most of those in his government today are engaged in all sorts of ill behaviours, including corruption against what the president himself truly abhors, claiming its politics under a ruling party that should lead the way.
This, in some aspects or quarters, gives him out as one who is not willing to fight corruption decisively or as one who condones it.
But Buhari is who he says he is; it is only those around him who are messing things up under the guise of partisanship in a ruling party that was supposed to show a good example for others to emulate.
And, it will be worse if we allow these same group of individuals or so-called associates of the current president, who is himself a nobleman, to assume leadership through any guise again and except we have an incorruptible man by deeds and actions such as Buhari, in Aso Rock Villa, there won’t be any change but an exchange of batten or a change if you like, in the caps of new sets of thieves, or treasury looters, so to speak.
What Nigerians are interested in today is a man who can effect positive change or one with proven agility and the mental capacity to do so, no matter his tribe or which zone of the country he is from, and not a party.
Party consciousness has failed us because they stand for nothing. It represents no clear ideological stands, especially in our Nigerian society on which to hold those who use them to account.
It’s just a vehicle on which to contest elections, not an exclusive entity owned by infallible humans but certain groups of persons used them to perpetuate all manners of exclusion and inhuman activities such as the endorsement of untrustworthy and incapable individuals out of self-interest without being challenged.
In the case where it lost their value and true essence, it now turns to indoctrinate the populace to accept its programs through persuasion and some inducement of those inclined to it who now vote it into power in expectation of dividends, but its failure to perform, in the cause of which it now looks for a scapegoat. The party has often claimed such accusations are the handiwork of the opposing parties.
But right-thinking people, and indeed a society that craves for change, those claims are balderdash. People should ignore parties and choose individuals they know are fit and can do the job effectively and decisively devoid of the sentiment of the party which is now been used as a cover-up.
It has now become a way to get people of their kind to assume positions of power to continue the enslavement of the less privileged to have links with those at the party hierarchy where these persons have taken grip as if it were their personal properties, all in the name of foundation members or founding fathers and all sorts of gimmicks to keep the people in perpetual hardship for their lack of solutions to the problems in the society.
This is why some of these savages, so mindlessly, have developed little fear for the President because of his humane nature so much that they arbitrarily take most decisions before the president gets to know it, as we hear, and thus, behave anyhow believing that nothing would happen as long as it is within the party and done for the sake of it.
In case of any public outcry, they had always contrived in-house some collaboration within themselves and have something to tell the President, either at the governor’s level, especially those in the same party or individuals said to be close to him, and that ends the story.
All of these internal manipulations and incongruity have made it look as if the president never cares, but he does. The problem is with his handlers, some party juggernauts, including some of our northern brothers who are unable to contain the challenges and competition that abound, and try to drum into the minds of this good man. They play into his mind the need to be cautious about people, out of their religious consideration, making the president to think that he is not being appreciated, except by them, and he now apparently feels insecure.
But that’s all the politics they play, taking advantage of the nature of the President, which is gradually eroding all that General Buhari had worked and lived for and had over the years made him a cynosure all over Africa, especially amongst his fellow Presidents.
There can be no other Buhari amongst the old stuck in our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) after the grand exit of General Mohammadu Buhari, let no one deceive us.
We should look elsewhere, and certainly not among the old brigades of so-called party faithful and founding fathers no matter their records of accomplishments, if they are not prudent, sound in mind and body, incorruptible, selfless, and forgiving, less forget it.
That’s what Nigeria’s situations need, and would be permitted for it, to see the light brighter than what it is now.
The concluding part of this essay for want of space will be out next week unfailingly, the Lord willing. I am still your “personal person”, do not forsake me, brother/sister!
