Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has mourned the death of veteran journalist and revered community leader, Pa Joe Onyibe, describing his passing as a monumental loss to the journalism profession, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Ika nation, and Delta State at large.
In a condolence message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori extended his heartfelt sympathies to the Onyibe family, the Ika community, and members of the media fraternity. He praised the late journalist for his unwavering dedication to truth, fairness, and public enlightenment throughout his decades-long career.
“Pa Joe Onyibe, who died at the age of 90, was a trailblazer who used journalism to amplify the voices of his people and to promote good governance and social justice. His contributions to grassroots journalism through The Ika Voice Newspaper were pioneering and transformative,” the Governor said.
Oborevwori noted that Pa Onyibe’s legacy is one of integrity, service, and passionate advocacy for community development, values that earned him widespread respect and admiration.
While praying for the peaceful repose of the late journalist’s soul, the Governor encouraged his family, the Ika nation, and the Delta State Council of the NUJ to take comfort in the enduring legacy he left behind. He further called on young journalists to emulate Pa Onyibe’s ethical standards and commitment to humanity through responsible journalism.
“His passing leaves a void, but his legacy will continue to inspire generations of journalists and public advocates in Delta and beyond,” Governor Oborevwori concluded.
