Sequel to the Federal government’s declaration of Friday, April 21, and Monday, April 24, 2023, as Public Holidays to mark the Eid-el-Fitri celebration, the National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) Hon Kolade David Alabi, has congratulated all Muslim faithful across the 774 LGAs, Area Councils and Development Centers throughout the country with prayers for a peaceful celebration.
According to a Press Statement from his Abuja (ALGON) Media Office, Hon. Alabi noted that Eid as a festival of charity; goes a long way to provide a great opportunity for self-examination regarding the struggle for holiness which was the hallmark of the past 30 days of fasting in such a manner that it resonates in adherents with a deep spiritual significance for pivoting a better future.
He described Eid ul Fitri as a pious day that evokes immense joy and infectious happiness, peace and prosperity which according to him must be jealously sustained especially when cascaded from the rich to the poor majority.
The ALGON President recall that Allah (SWT) has not failed to demonstrate His kindness and generosity to Mankind as a loving Father and urged the rural Muslim faithful to always emulate His love as merciful and beneficent with unwavering hope in the upcoming transition which according to him will bring more democratic benefits to the rural populace
In his words, “The LGAs and Area Councils are the destination for democratic dividends because of their number, consciousness and active participation, such requires a corresponding reward after elections as we have successfully had”.
He pointed out that an increase in rural development, and access to more robust and effective representation is a reward from the political solidarity of the rural dwellers in anticipation of better and more meaningful lives despite all economic drawbacks and must be given due attention by all elected officers.
He concludes by affirming that the “Basic responsibility of every government after the security of lives and property is to entrench leadership with a passion for sustainable development through more decisive state and federal interventions to tackle the increasing rural sustainability challenges (food, water, shelter, primary health care services, infrastructures, education, job creation, climate change etc). With all these expectations and agenda setting, it is also important to pray and commit all our leaders into the hands of Allah for guidance”.
