Suspended Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, has continued to maintain a positive disposition and extend support to inmates at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Warri, despite being remanded at the facility.
Izeze was arraigned on Monday before the Delta State High Court sitting in Effurun over an alleged assault involving Simon Umudi, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Protocol.
Following the court proceedings, Izeze and his associate, Simeon Aguariavwodo, were remanded at the custodial centre pending further proceedings in the case.
However, his detention has not reportedly prevented him from showing concern for the welfare of other inmates, with sources at the facility saying he has continued to initiate interventions aimed at providing relief and improving their living conditions.
According to sources, Izeze is planning to organise the “Ukodo na Tevwe” football tournament for inmates, even as he contends with reported health challenges and an ongoing legal battle.
The suspended commissioner is also said to have paid fines for some inmates who were unable to meet their financial obligations, helping to facilitate their release and reduce the burden on their families.
In another intervention, Izeze is reportedly working with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) towards providing a water project for the custodial centre.
The proposed project is expected to improve access to potable water for inmates and contribute to better living conditions within the facility.
His reported conduct has attracted attention among inmates and officials of the custodial centre, with sources describing him as compassionate and composed despite his current circumstances.
The interventions, according to the sources, reflect Izeze’s continued interest in the welfare of others even while facing his own legal challenges.
