Coalition, Ex-Millitant Leaders Pass Vote of Confidence on NNPC GCEO Kyari, Endorse Amb. Dambature As National Coordinator of CSOs
A coalition of civil society organisations (CSOs) and ex-militant leaders from across Nigeria has passed a vote of confidence on Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Limited), Engr Mele Kolo Kyari.
The groups also endorsed the President of Arewa Youths for Good Leadership, Amb. Abdul Dambature, as the National Coordinator of the Almagametion of Civil Society Groups in Nigeria.
The endorsement came after an emergency meeting of the groups, under the banner of the Association of Concerned Citizens of the Six Geo-political Zones in Nigeria and the National Association of Niger Delta Ex-militant Leaders, held in Abuja on February 12, 2024.
According to a communique issued at the end of the meeting, the groups pledged their full support and cooperation to the leadership of the GCEO of NNPC Limited, Engr. Kyari and the newly endorsed CSOs National Coordinator, Dambature.
They pledged that they will not engage in any form of protest or violence that will disrupt the oil sector or over the activities of the NNPC Limited.
The groups lauded Engr Kyari for his remarkable achievements as the GCEO of NNPC Limited.
They listed such achievements to include:
- The completion of the AKK Pipeline Project, which will boost gas supply and power generation in the country¹².
- The passage of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), which will usher in a new era of transparency, accountability and performance excellence in the oil and gas sector³⁴.
- The incorporation of NNPC Limited under CAMA, which will make the national oil company more competitive and profitable.
- The uninterrupted fuel supply, which has ensured stability and affordability of petroleum products for Nigerians.
The groups also commended Dambature for his role in promoting good leadership and national unity among the youths of the country.
They then urged other Nigerians to join them in supporting the efforts of NNPC Limited and the new CSOs leader, Amb. Dambature in their support for the transformation of the oil and gas sector for increased revenue to the country and to enhance the socio-economic development of Nigeria.
