The Olubadan, Oba (Dr) Senator Olalekan Ishola Balogun Alli Okunmade II, the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland, has died.

This is as the Agbarijo Egbe Odo Yoruba (Grand Council of Yoruba Youths) has expressed sadness over the death of the traditional ruler, merely two years into his reign.

Agbarijo Egbe Odo Yoruba (Grand Council of Yoruba Youths), Ajijagbara (Comrade) Awa Bamiji, in a statement said, “Just a little above 2 years of his peaceful reign in Ibadan, it’s sad to receive the news of the passage unto glory of Oba (Dr) Senator Olalekan Ishola Balogun Alli Okunmade II, the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland, who passed on yesterday’s evening at University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Oyo State.

“We were about sending this adjusted Press Release out to celebrate his life, 2nd Anniversary on the throne, before the news filtered in and compulsorily, we are now using it to mourn him.

The Street Reporters Newspaper reports that the monarch came from Ali-Iwo compound in the present Ibadan North East local government area.

It was gathered that the Olubadan passed on shortly after he was moved to the health facility at the UCH, Ibadan.

He was an academic and politician before he ascended the throne in 2022 and was a lecturer at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria and was later elected to represent Oyo Central Senatorial District between 1999 and 2003.

Balogun, who has a doctor of philosophy, became the Olubadan on 11 March 2022.

He succeeded Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji who joined his ancestors on 2nd January, 2022.
