Former Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Ehigiator Arase, has reportedly passed away in Abuja at the age of 69. Born on June 21, 1956, Arase rose through the ranks of the Nigeria Police to become the country’s 18th Inspector-General in April 2015, serving until June 2016. Known for his emphasis on intelligence-led policing and reforms, he earned respect across the force and beyond for his hands-on leadership style.

After retirement, he was appointed Chairman of the Police Service Commission in January 2023, a role he held until June 2024 when President Bola Tinubu nominated a replacement.

Reports of his death spread quickly across police circles, with some senior officers said to have shared the news on internal communication platforms.

Senior police sources confirmed to news sources that the former IGP had indeed passed on.

At the time of this report, the Nigeria Police Force had yet to issue a formal statement. Nonetheless, news of his reported demise has generated a wave of shock across the security community and the nation at large, with tributes beginning to pour in from colleagues and associates who remember him as a reform-minded officer and a gentleman who dedicated his life to public service.

This remains a developing story. Further details, including an official confirmation from the family and relevant authorities, are expected in the coming hours.
