Multichoice Nigeria to give subscribers on the DStv and GOtv platforms one month of free subscription.

A three-man panel of the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal sitting in Abuja, led by Justice Thomas Okosu on Friday, gave the order.

Additionally, the Tribunal fined Multichoice Nigeria, the prominent Pay-TV operator and owner of DSTV and GOTV, N150 million for challenging the jurisdiction of the court, which recently restrained it from increasing the prices of its DStv and GOtv packages.

This decision followed an earlier order by the tribunal preventing Multichoice from raising subscription fees without proper notice.

The lawsuit, filed by Barrister Festus Onifade, argued that the eight-day notice given by Multichoice for the price increase was insufficient.

Onifade accused DSTV of unjustly increasing subscription fees without giving customers a month’s notice, prompting him to seek interim orders.
