Sanwo-Olu and Gbajabiamila: Awa Bamiji, June 12 Activists Celebrate Two Quintessential Achievers
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, former Speaker of the House of Representatives and current Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, are iconic figures in Nigeria, known for their remarkable accomplishments and unwavering commitment to public service, a statement signed by Comrade Awa Bamiji on behalf of June 12 activists say.
They noted that when discussing service to humanity and the nation, their names resonate across Lagos State, the Southwest region, and Nigeria as a whole.
In the statement signed by Comrade Awa Bamiji, the National Coordinator of Coalition of Pro-Democracy Groups for a Better Nigeria, the June 12 activists spoke on the political journey of the duo.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu: A Beacon of Hope
According to them, Governor Sanwo-Olu has left an indelible mark on Lagos State as his leadership has been characterized by a relentless pursuit of human and capital development.
They stated that from infrastructure projects to social welfare programmes, Governor Sanwo-Olu has consistently championed initiatives that uplift the lives of Lagosians.
Notably, they said, Governor Sanwo-Olu played a pivotal role in the recent celebrations of the 30th Anniversary of Epetedo Self-Declaration and the 31st Anniversary of June 12. These events, which held in Lagos State and Abuja, honoured the heroes and heroines of democracy.
Comrade Bamiji and the June 12 activists added that the Lagos State Governor showed genuine commitment to preserving historical legacies, which underscores his dedication to the people.
Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila: A Stalwart of Democracy
Speaking on Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila’s political journey, they said it spans over two decades. Representing Surulere Federal Constituency, Lagos State, they said, he maintained an impressive streak of re-elections from 2003 to 2023. His unwavering dedication to public service culminated in his appointment as Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In 2011, they added, Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila declined a National Honour offered by former President Goodluck Jonathan, GCFR. Instead, he accepted the “Akinkanju Omo Odu’a” Award from Agbarijo Egbe Odo Yoruba, Grand Council of Yoruba Youths—an accolade that resonated with his commitment to Yoruba heritage and values.
A Legacy of Partnership and Triumph
The coalition further noted that together, Governor Sanwo-Olu and Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila have navigated bridges and rivers, overcoming challenges as partners in progress. According to them, their joint leadership has steered Lagos State toward prosperity, resilience, and democratic ideals. As heroes of today’s democracy, they continue to inspire hope, amplify voices, and champion the cause of the people, the group stated.
“On this occasion—Governor Sanwo-Olu’s 59th birthday and Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila’s 62nd birthday—we celebrate their triumph over tyranny and oppression. The drums beat, and the trumpets sound in honour of their remarkable contributions”, they concluded.
