In a stunning turn of events, President Joe Biden has endorsed Kamala Harris for US president, just as his own withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race leaves Democrats reeling.
With less than four months until election day, the party must now find a new nominee and rally their base to defeat Donald Trump.
Analysts say Biden’s unprecedented move has put Democrats in “uncharted territory,” with no modern precedent to guide them.
As the party scrambles to choose a new candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris is an early favorite, but challengers may yet emerge.
The Democratic National Convention in Chicago next month will be the stage for a dramatic nomination battle, with over 4,000 delegates set to vote.
Can Democrats seize this opportunity to energize their base and take on Trump, or will the change in leadership prove a risky gamble? Only time will tell.
