ALGON Hails Victory for Democracy as Ebonyi LG Chairmen Emerge Victorious, Congratulates Newly Elected Council Bosses
The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has extended its warmest congratulations to the newly elected Local Government Chairmen in Ebonyi State, including its Deputy National President, Hon. Moses Nomeh, on their resounding victory in the recent council elections.
ALGON National President, Hon. Aminu Mu’azu Maifata, praised the democratic process, describing it as a sacred trust aimed at unlocking the full potentials for grassroots development.
He commended the Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for his exemplary conduct and commitment to ensuring that local governments are truly representative of the people.
Maifata appealed to other governors to prioritize this democratic imperative, emphasizing its importance in strengthening the fabric of democratic existence and supporting the success of Local Government Autonomy.
He also applauded the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) for its professionalism and dedication to ensuring a seamless electoral process.
The ALGON National President emphasized the need for maximum productivity in Local Government administration, announcing that the association will embark on a massive campaign and awareness drive to encourage its members to deliver on their mandates.
He highlighted the key functions of Local Government Chairmen, including security, primary healthcare, universal basic education, infrastructure, and other responsibilities as enunciated in the 1999 Constitution.
Maifata expressed confidence in the ability of Local Government Chairmen to deliver on their mandates, stressing the importance of peer review, monitoring, and evaluation in achieving this goal.
