Ministries of Solid Minerals and Steel Development Launch Anti-Corruption Unit to Enhance Transparency and Accountability
In a bid to strengthen transparency and accountability, the Ministries of Solid Minerals and Steel Development have jointly inaugurated a new Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU).
The unit was launched in alignment with the mandate of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) to promote transparency, accountability, and fight against corruption across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
The inaugural ceremony was attended by representatives from both ministries, including the Director, Human Resource Management, Mrs. Ijeoma Idika, who represented the Permanent Secretaries of both Ministries.
Mrs. Idika emphasized the significance of the ACTU in fostering a transparent and accountable workforce, which is crucial for maintaining a sanitized and efficient work environment.
The newly appointed members of the ACTU were inducted during the ceremony, with a total of twelve members joining the unit. The ACTU is expected to play a vital role in promoting effective accountability and transparency within the ministries.
The Chairman of the ICPC, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, represented by the Director, Systems Study and Review Department, ICPC, Mr. Olusegun Adigun, FSI, highlighted the collaboration between the ICPC and the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation.
This collaboration, approved by the Federal Executive Council in 2001, aims to serve as an in-house mechanism for preventing corruption in MDAs, aligning with global best practices.
The ICPC presented the ACTU operating manual to the representative of the Permanent Secretaries during the event.
The newly appointed Chairman of ACTU, Mr. Christopher Tariq Wanji, expressed his gratitude to the Permanent Secretaries for entrusting him with this significant responsibility.
He pledged to bring about a remarkable difference in this role, committing to the advancement of transparency and accountability within the ministries.
The launch of the ACTU is a significant step towards enhancing transparency and accountability in the Ministries of Solid Minerals and Steel Development.
The unit is expected to play a crucial role in promoting effective accountability and transparency, aligning with the mandate of the ICPC.
