Gov. Sanwo-Olu To Deliver Lecture As Yoruba National Day Celebration Holds September 23 in Honour of Eda Onile-Ola at 85
The 2024 Yoruba National Day celebration will take place on September 23 at the newly renovated Wole Soyinka Theatre, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The event, organized by the Grand Council of Yoruba Youths, will honour the 85th birthday of veteran actor and elder statesman, Chief Lere Paimo, a.k.a Eda Onile-Ola.
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will deliver a lecture titled “National Unity and Agitation for Self-Determination: The way forward for Nigeria?” as the Chairman, Southwest Governors’ Forum.
The event will be chaired by Otunba Jumoke Ogunkeyede (JMK), with Senator Shehu Sani as co-chair. Special guests of honor include President Bola Tinubu and First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, while past and present Southwest governors and their deputies are guests of honour.
Awardees of the Ori Olokun Odu’a Award include Ambassador (Dr) Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosumu, Dr. Abimbola Akintola, Senator Shehu Sani, and others.
The celebration will feature traditional delicacies, cultural displays, and competitions, including Ayo Olopon, Ijala, Ekun Iyawo, Ariyanjiyan, and more.
According to Comrade Awa Bamiji, President-General, Grand Council of Yoruba Youths, the event marks a significant milestone in the recognition of Yoruba National Day, following the Lagos State House of Assembly’s approval to celebrate Yoruba Week in the state.
