Rebuilding Labour Party: LP FCT Elders Endorse NTC’s Vision For Stronger Party
The Labour Party (LP) FCT Elders Stakeholders Forum has expressed optimism that the inauguration of the LP National Transition Committee (NTC) under Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar’s leadership marks a new dawn for the party.
The Chairman of the forum, Elder Chike Nwobu, stated this while the group hosted the leadership of the LP-NTC in Abuja during their meeting recently.
The forum endorsed the NTC’s efforts to revitalize the party’s democratic fabric through elected Labour Party Executive Committee Members from Wards to National levels.
He said, “We enthusiastically endorse the NTC’s commitment to inclusive Ward, LGAs/Area Councils, and State’s Congresses, culminating in a transparent National Convention.
“This process will yield elected Labour Party Executive Committee Members from Wards to National levels, revitalizing our party’s democratic fabric.
On the potentials of Labour Party to emerge as the preferred political party by the masses, he said, “The recent Bauchi State Local Government Councils election, Where Labour Party triumphed without fielding candidates, underscores the masses’ recognition of our party as the catalyst for transformative change.
“We commend the leadership excellence of Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar and his executive committee members and pray for a successful transition as they work tirelessly to rescue and rebuild our great party.”
Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar, Chairman of the LP-NTC, warned party members against purchasing nomination forms from Julius Abure’s group, stating, “Any member who does so will have himself or herself to blame.” Omar emphasized that the NTC’s goal is to change the narratives of bad leadership in the country, not just target Abure and his group. He described Abure as “highly intelligent in negativity.”
Omar stressed that the wrong choice of leadership denied the party about 35 percent of its votes during the 2023 presidential election, making the party transactional.
The LP-NTC was constituted and inaugurated by the NLC Political Commission, Labour Party members, and other stakeholders to avoid a leadership vacuum ahead of the June 10th, 2024 expiration date of Julius Abure’s tenure as National Chairman of the party.
