In a surprise move, Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, has resigned from his position with immediate effect. According to a statement issued by the Presidency on Saturday, Ngelale has also stepped down as the Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action and Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen.
Ngelale’s decision to leave his roles comes amidst a family health crisis, which he described as a “vexatious medical situation” that has worsened in recent days. In a memo submitted to the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, Ngelale informed the office of his plan to proceed on an indefinite leave of absence to focus on his family’s health issues.
The statement released by Ngelale expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to serve the President and the nation, while also acknowledging the importance of prioritizing his family’s well-being during this challenging time. He stated, “I look forward to returning to full-time national service when time, healing, and fate permit.”
Ngelale’s resignation has sent shockwaves through the Presidential Villa, with many colleagues and associates expressing surprise and sadness at his departure. His dedication and commitment to the President’s agenda have been widely acknowledged, and his absence will undoubtedly be felt.
The Presidency has yet to announce a replacement for Ngelale’s roles, but sources indicate that a new appointment may be made in the coming days.
In his parting words, Ngelale respectfully requested privacy for his family during this difficult period, saying, “I respectfully ask for some privacy for my family and me during this time.” The nation wishes him and his family well as they navigate this challenging situation.
