The Kwara State Government has announced that the monthly sanitation exercise for October 2024 will hold on Saturday, October 26, from 7:00 am to 10:00 am. To ensure effective cleaning, a three-hour movement restriction will be enforced across the state.

According to a statement signed by Kamaldeen Aliagan, Press Secretary, Ministry of Environment, residents are expected to participate actively in the exercise by cleaning their surroundings, including residential and business environments.

“Residents are enjoined to clear drainages and bushes around their surroundings for health and safety reasons,” the statement read.

To monitor compliance, security agents, environmental health officers (popularly known as “Wole-wole”), and members of the Environmental Task Force will patrol the streets.

The government warned that offenders would be sanctioned, and emphasized that dumping refuse on unauthorized sites, including pedestrian walkways, road dividers, drainages, and canals, is an offense.

“Waste management trucks will be made available for waste collection and subsequent dumping at government-approved dump sites,” the statement added.
