The National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) has taken a significant step in promoting cyber security awareness among Nigerian students. Comrade Muniretu Isah, the National ex-Officio 1 of NANS, officially declared the Cyber Security Awareness Program open in Abuja.
The event brought together stakeholders and cyber security experts, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), among others.
The organiser, Comrade Muniretu Isah told the participants that “As students, you are the future leaders, innovators, and change-makers of our society,” adding, “And as a student organization, it is our responsibility to provide you with opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive.”
She explained that the program was designed to protect students from cyber threats, which have become increasingly prevalent in this digital age. “In this digital age, technology has become an integral part of our daily lives,” Comrade Isah noted. “However, with the increased use of technology comes the risk of cyber threats.”
Over four hours, participants engaged in interactive sessions, activities, and discussions led by experts in the field of cyber security. The program featured an impressive lineup of speakers, panelists, and facilitators who will shared their insights, experiences, and expertise on cyber security awareness and best practices.
Comrade Isah expressed gratitude to the program’s sponsors, partners, and supporters, acknowledging their commitment to student development. “Your generosity and commitment to student development are truly appreciated,” she said.
The program was initiated to educate and empower students with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the online world safely. “I encourage you to make the most of this program,” Comrade Isah urged the students. “Engage with the speakers, participate in the discussions, and network with your peers”, Comrade Isah said.
The initiative is part of NANS’ efforts to promote student development and empowerment. By providing students with the knowledge and skills to protect themselves from cyber threats, NANS is helping to create a safer online community and promoting digital responsibility among young people.
Also, speaking, the National President of NANS, Comrade Lucky Emonefe, who graced the occasion, and other national leaders of the students’ body commended the National Ex-Officio 1 for initiating the awareness event and underscored the importance.
Also present at the event was the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students Engagement, Sunday Asefon, the President of the All-Africa Students Union (AASU), H.E. Osisiogu Osikenyi Enyinnaya, among other prominent students’ leaders.
