In a fiery rebuttal shaking Nigeria’s political space, former National Treasurer of the Labour Party (LP), Oluchi Oparah, has denounced the purported suspension of top LP figures, calling the move illegal and “the last kick of a dying horse.”
Oparah was responding to a media report attributed to Farouk Umar, former National Secretary of the party, announcing that Julius Abure — whose chairmanship was nullified by the Supreme Court on April 4 — had led efforts to suspend the party’s only governor, Alex Chioma Otti of Abia State, along with prominent lawmakers including Senator Ireti Kingibe, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, and House members Afam Ogene, Seyi Sowunmi, and Amaobi Ogar.
Blasting Abure’s continued claim to leadership, Oparah declared, “You can’t put something on nothing and expect it to stand.” She emphasized that the Supreme Court ruling had decisively removed Abure’s authority, making any actions he takes “an aberration of law” and “holds no water.”
“It beats my imagination how Abure, who was sacked by the highest court of the land, intentionally undermines and defecates on the Supreme Court,” Oparah fumed.
She further accused Abure and his allies of becoming “tools in the hands of the opposition to destabilize the party,” warning party faithful and the media to disregard the suspension claims.
On Wednesday, the Labour Party’s acting national chairman, Senator Nenadi Esther Usman, set up a disciplinary committee to investigate the Supreme Court sacked national chairman of the party, Julius Abure.
