In a fiery and strongly worded statement, the National Caretaker Committee (NCC) of the Labour Party (LP), led by Senator Nenadi Usman, has issued a final warning to Barrister Julius Abure and his former executive officers, accusing them of criminal impersonation, defiance of the Supreme Court, and working as political saboteurs in collaboration with ruling party interests.

Speaking through Comrade Tony Akeni Le Moin, a member of the Media and Publicity Committee of the NCC, the Nenadi Usman-led leadership categorically stated that Abure’s tenure as national chairman, along with that of his exco, was legally terminated by the Supreme Court judgment delivered on April 4, 2025.

“Millions of law-abiding faithfuls and supporters of our party under the leadership of the National Caretaker Committee (NCC), which has Senator Nenadi as Chairman and consequently Acting National Chairman of the party, have watched with disgust but equanimity the unabating lawlessness and irresponsible defiance of the judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, the highest court in the land,” Comrade Akeni declared.

The statement accused Abure and his associates of not only rebelling against the Supreme Court judgment but also launching coordinated attacks against some of the party’s most prominent figures, notably its 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, and Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti.

“Instead of dutiful acceptance of the Supreme Court judgment and humble conciliations with valid authorities of the party, Abure and his desperate apron hangers at national and state levels have assumed the role of political herdsmen, bandits and outlaws,” Akeni said. “Unprovoked attacks, orchestrated diatribe and ridicule by Abure and his followers have continually targeted our party’s iconic presidential candidate… and our party’s only governor and highest performing governor in the entire federation.”

The NCC alleges that Abure’s faction, despite its legal ouster, continues to hold what it called “soap operas of enemy-sponsored press conferences,” including the controversial setting up of a “disciplinary committee” on May 2, which threatened sanctions against Peter Obi and Governor Alex Otti.

Akeni was scathing: “It is the highest irony of our time that a bunch of despicable, expired party officers, signature forgers and multi-felony fraudsters should be posturing to punish the impeccably responsible, highest constitutional leaders and multi-dimensionally superior nobility of our party.”

Beyond internal power struggles, the NCC statement warned that the Abure group is allegedly working in concert with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to weaken the Labour Party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Discerning Nigerians all over the globe now fully understand that the vicious goal of Julius Abure and his renegade herd… is to serve the purpose of their paymasters in the ruling party as a means for negotiating and boosting their well-known unscrupulous transactional and pecuniary value before these paymasters,” Akeni asserted.

The statement further revealed alleged intelligence reports that claim the Abure faction is scheming to stage parallel presidential primaries and present rival candidates under the Labour Party name, aiming to split the party and derail Peter Obi’s anticipated 2027 presidential bid.

Akeni was unequivocal in his warning: “We the only authentic Labour Party authority in Nigeria under the national leadership of Sen. Nenadi Usman hereby wish to serve Mr. Julius Abure and his defunct officers… that there are consequences, grievous and parlous consequences, for their unbridled lawlessness against both the Supreme Court… and their impersonating banditry against the authentic Labour Party leadership, and that those consequences are indeed at the door.”

He emphasized that this statement serves as the final olive branch, after which the party leadership would no longer tolerate what they term “grievous perfidies.”

“After this warning, there shall be no further olive branch, and it is therefore in their enlightened best interest to seize this last gesture for a bridge of peace… or prepare to face the consequences,” Akeni warned, concluding with the ominous phrase: “To be forewarned is to be forearmed.”

The Labour Party has been embroiled in factional disputes for months, with both the Nenadi Usman-led NCC and the Julius Abure faction claiming legitimacy even after the Abure’s claims to the leadership of the party based on court order has been nullified by the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Political observers are watching closely, as the outcome of these battles may significantly affect the party’s fortunes ahead of the 2027 elections, especially given the central role of Peter Obi and the Obidient movement in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.

Efforts to reach the Julius Abure-led faction for comment were unsuccessful as of press time.
