In a sweeping crackdown on cybercrime, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announced the arrest of 120 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud across Lagos.
The coordinated operation, carried out by operatives of the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1, took place on Monday, May 19, 2025, and marks one of the largest mass arrests of cybercrime suspects in the region in recent years.
According to a statement released by the Commission, the arrests were the result of “credible intelligence and thorough surveillance” that identified the suspects’ alleged involvement in various forms of online fraud. The arrested individuals comprise 95 men and 25 women, apprehended at multiple locations throughout Lagos.
“Operatives of the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the EFCC have arrested 120 suspected internet fraudsters… following credible intelligence and thorough surveillance regarding their alleged involvement in internet-related fraud,” the Commission stated.
