Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed Ajia, the Dan Amanar Fune of the Fune Emirate Council, has paid glowing tributes to His Royal Highness (HRH, Dr. Idris Saleh Ibn Uthman, the Emir of Fune, in celebration of the Emir’s 25th coronation anniversary.
In a statement released by his Director of Communications, Malam Abdulrahman Aliagan, Ajia expressed deep gratitude to the Emir for his steadfast leadership and commitment to the growth, unity, and preservation of tradition within the Emirate.
Speaking at the grand event which doubled as his own turbaning ceremony as Dan Amanar Fune, Ajia described the milestone as both a personal honour and a reaffirmation of the Emirate’s enduring values.
“I am deeply humbled to stand here today, not only to celebrate the Emir’s quarter-century of leadership but to publicly thank him for the trust reposed in me with the title of Dan Amanar Fune,” Ajia said in an emotional address. “It is a symbol of love and trust, and I pledge to continue to uphold the virtues of integrity, service, and loyalty to the Emirate.”
The event attracted a distinguished assembly of royal fathers, political leaders, friends, and well-wishers from across Nigeria. Among the eminent guests was His Eminence, the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi, whose presence lent additional prestige and historical significance to the occasion.
Ajia extended heartfelt appreciation to Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, and members of his cabinet for their consistent support of the traditional institution and their dedication to peace and development in the state. He also lauded the Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Hon. Buba Ciroma Macio, and all members of the State Assembly for their continued partnership with the Emirate.
In a particularly touching tribute, Ajia remembered the late Yobe State Governor, Senator Mamman Ali, describing him as a mentor and a guiding light who first introduced him to the workings of the traditional institution in Yobe.
“The late Senator Mamman Ali was more than a mentor; he was a bridge between tradition and modern governance. His impact on my life and his contributions to the Emirate remain indelible,” Ajia said.
Ajia also singled out Engineer Abubakar Aliyu, former Deputy Governor of Yobe State, for his steady support and wise counsel, acknowledging the former deputy governor’s key role in fostering harmony between the government and traditional institutions.
His appreciation extended to all traditional rulers from within Yobe State and those who journeyed from neighbouring states such as Borno, Jigawa, Gombe, and Bauchi to join the celebration. Their presence, he said, underscored the strong bonds of unity and brotherhood among Nigeria’s royal institutions.
Ajia was particularly grateful to Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, GCON, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), describing him as a pivotal figure in his connection with the Fune Emirate. “Distinguished Senator Anyim believed in me and created pathways for my association with the royal court. For this, I remain eternally thankful,” he noted.
Further, Ajia acknowledged the Emir of Ilorin, Mai-Martaba Sheikh (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, for granting approval for his turbaning and for his inspiring and visionary leadership.
In a concluding note filled with emotion, Ajia thanked his family, friends, and supporters from across Nigeria and the diaspora. “Your encouragement, prayers, and presence here today remind me that I am not alone. I am forever grateful for your unwavering support,” he said.
The silver jubilee celebration of Emir Dr. Idris Saleh’s reign was not just a moment of festivity but a powerful reaffirmation of the Emirate’s dedication to service, tradition, and unity—values that continue to strengthen the socio-cultural fabric of Fune and its people.
