The Atum Humanitarian Anti-Corruption & Charitable Initiative (AHACCI) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as an unprecedented commitment to eradicating corruption and strengthening good governance in Nigeria.
In a statement on Thursday, AHACCI Director General, Ambassador Ismaila Yusuf Atus, said the administration’s decisive measures are setting a new standard for transparency and accountability, noting that increased funding and guaranteed independence for anti-corruption agencies have empowered them to act without political interference.
Atus, a staunch advocate for grassroots integrity and systemic reform, linked Nigeria’s improved position in the 2024 Transparency International (TI) Corruption Perception Index — moving from 145th to 140th — to the President’s strategic policies and bold actions.
“President Tinubu’s leadership is restoring faith in our institutions,” Atus said. “This leap in TI’s rankings reflects the global community’s growing confidence in Nigeria’s governance under his watch. What we are witnessing is a deliberate effort to institutionalise integrity and restore dignity to public service.”
The AHACCI chief also lauded the administration’s economic policies aimed at tackling the root causes of corruption, particularly among civil servants and young people. He cited initiatives such as the student loan scheme, the credit guarantee system, and an increase in the minimum wage as tools that reduce poverty, inequality, and desperation — thereby lowering the temptation to engage in corrupt practices.
“When citizens can meet their basic needs legitimately, the lure of cutting corners diminishes,” he said, adding that housing schemes for civil servants and expanded credit access for entrepreneurs address pressure points that often lead to unethical conduct.
Atus further praised ongoing reforms in the justice sector, including the fast-tracking of corruption cases, stressing that speed and fairness in legal processes are vital for restoring public trust.
“President Tinubu is proving that economic reform can go hand in hand with ethical governance,” he noted. “The results are beginning to speak for themselves.”
Calling for broader collaboration, Atus urged civil society, traditional rulers, the media, and young Nigerians to actively support the anti-corruption campaign.
“The President has laid a strong foundation. It is now up to every patriotic Nigerian to play their part from the grassroots to the highest offices. That is how we will build a just and prosperous country,” he said.
Founded on the belief that sustainable development requires ethical leadership, AHACCI works to dismantle systemic barriers created by corruption, injustice, and inequality through education, advocacy, and strategic partnerships. “Our goal is to usher in a new era of civic responsibility and national pride — one where fairness, justice, and opportunity are accessible to all,” Atus added.
