The Southeast Patriots Advocacy Committee has strongly disowned a statement circulating in the media that purportedly called on former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, to accept a vice-presidential slot with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the 2027 elections, describing the publication as fraudulent, mischievous, and a desperate attempt to drag the group into partisan politics.

In a press statement signed by Chief (Mrs.) Ifeyinwa Arafat Ezenwa, Ijele Nwanyị Igbo Nile, Chairperson of the Southeast Patriots Advocacy Committee, the body clarified that neither it nor its national parent body, The Patriots, had anything to do with the statement allegedly endorsed by one Barr. Obunike Ohaegbu of Anambra State and Barr. Ambrose Ugbaja of Imo State.

“We state categorically and without equivocation that this statement did not emanate from the Southeast Patriots Advocacy Committee, nor from The Patriots, the national body led by Chief Emeka Anyaoku, GCON, former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth,” Ezenwa declared.

She emphasized that The Patriots remains a non-partisan body of “distinguished elder statesmen, respected professionals, and patriotic Nigerians, devoted exclusively to advancing a historic national cause: the birth of a new people’s democratic constitution through popular participation; the enthronement of genuine federalism; the strengthening of democratic institutions; and the pursuit of justice, equity, and good governance.”

Ezenwa was firm in stating that the group’s mandate is “clear and unshakable,” stressing that “The Patriots is not, and will never be, a partisan political platform. We are not aligned with, and will not endorse, any candidate or ticket for the 2027 presidential election or any other election. Any attempt to drag the name of The Patriots or its zonal advocacy committees into partisan politics is both mischievous and fraudulent.”

Describing the individuals who signed the purported political statement as impostors, she noted: “Mr. Obunike Ohaegbu and Mr. Ambrose Ugbaja are unknown to the Southeast Patriots Advocacy Committee. They hold no role within our structures and are not authorized to speak on our behalf.”

The committee urged the media, the Nigerian public, the international community, and all citizens to disregard the fake statement, calling it “null, void, and a desperate attempt to hijack the respected name of The Patriots for narrow political ends.”

Reiterating the group’s unwavering focus, Ezenwa added: “The Patriots will continue to engage Nigerians across all regions through non-partisan advocacy, working tirelessly to deliver a new federal democratic order that guarantees unity in diversity, promotes accountability, and ensures that every Nigerian feels a true sense of belonging. We strongly caution against any further misuse of our name. Those behind this falsehood are hereby advised to desist immediately.”

She concluded by affirming the body’s commitment to its core mission, stating: “The Patriots remain focused, united, and unwavering in our mission. We shall not be distracted.”
